2001 Small Grants Program Sponsors and Recipients

In 2001, our second year in operation, the Foundation set aside funding for Discretionary Grants. These grants were available for employees who were involved with a nonprofit organzation or cause. Over 25 grants were awarded to non-profits on behalf of salesforce.com employees totaling over $75,000.

United States

Trips for Kids, San Rafael, California
This non-profit provides mountain bike outings and environmental education for underserved youth in the Bay Area. Youth from urban environments have a chance to experience the beauty of the Bay Area they don't typically see in their neighborhoods. A group of salesforce.com employees rode with the young people all over the hills of Marin County.

Child Advocates, Silicon Valley, California
Salesforce.com customer service employee, Tucker MacLean, participated in a triathlon to raise funds and awareness for this organization. Child Advocates offers workshop benefiting community volunteers who work one-on-one with children that have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect.

One Planet Educational Outfitters (OPEO), San Francisco, California
With a mission to help high school students realize and build their leadership potential and skills, this outdoor adventure program gets kids to lead their own initiatives. Tien Tzuo, salesforce.com Product Marketing, sponsored four youth to participate in a weekend camping trip.

Buena Vista Auxillary, Diablo Valley, California
Brian Millham and his wife supported this auxillary's wine tasting and silent auction in a "Toast to Tutoring" benefiting the Buena Vista tutorial program for youth.

Children of War, Reston, Virginia
Salesforce.com Finance employee, Maneeza Aminy, worked to raise money for war and famine victims in Afghanistan.

Youth Arts Festival, San Francisco, California

The Youth Arts Festival brings art programs to local schools and sponsors creativity programs among San Francisco youth. The Product Marketing and Management team joined with youth to co-create a video documentary and dialogue about kids and their experiences using different art media. The two teams attended the weeklong Youth Arts Festival asking participants to share their thoughts on their favorite art and artistic expression.

World Wildlife Fund, San Francisco, California
Former CEO of salesforce.com, John Dillon, was awarded this funding to support local programs being established to protect wildlife.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, San Francisco, California
Dave Cahill, salesforce.com System Engineering, completed the Wildflower Triathlon to aid the causes of this society.

American Diabetes Association, Napa, California
Salesforce.com Finance and Development employees, Kim Segal and Eric Shunk rode bikes through Napa for a total of 160 miles to raise money for the causes of the American Diabetes Association.

E-Live, San Francisco, California
A grantee of the Foundation, Michael Epstein, worked with 10 youth to develop the Salesforce.com Foundation interactive web site featuring animated presentations of events, demographics and contact information for the Community Technology Centers that we support in the Bay Area. Many salesforce.com employees including Cortneay Rothen, Lenny Turetsky, Jack Horner, and Sina Shekou gave their time to the development and launch of this site.

Israel Coexistence Web Site, Israel
Michael also took his teachings and passion to Israel and developed Peace Profiles, a program that brought Israeli and Arab youth together to work on a website for co-existence.

Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, San Francisco, California
Salesforce.com Developer, Lenny Turetsky, used his summer vacation to be a counselor for a week at "Champ Camp." Kids at this camp are burn survivors and have the chance to come together to learn from each other, have fun, and address their disabilities.

Avon Breast Cancer Three Day Walk, San Jose to San Francisco, California
Salesforce.com Sales, Customer Support, HR, and Finance employees, Kevin Robinson, Sheila Otvos, Whitney Pruitt, Allie Covarrubias, Kate Richard, Cindi Pardini and Laura Spivak walked 60 miles from Santa Clara to San Francisco to support the fight to end breast cancer deaths while celebrating the lives of those affected by the disease.

Montana AIDS Ride, Missoula to Billings, Montana
Daryl Garcia of Customer Support rode his bike for 575 miles from Missoula to Billings Montana in support of the fight against AIDS.

San Francisco AIDS Foundation, San Francisco to Los Angeles, California
Andy Maston and Matt Hahn from the Sales team, participated in the San Francisco AIDS walk to support this foundation's fight to end the AIDS epidemic.

Nihonmachi Legal Outreach, San Francisco, California
Salesforce.com Developers, Paul Nakada, his daughter, and Jerry Sherman rode bikes to benefit the Oakland Asian Domestic Violence Clinic.

Ireland

St. Joseph's National Boys School, Dublin, Ireland
This grant was used to improve the technology-based educational opportunities in the school, which provides education for boys from the local community.

Focus Ireland, Dublin, Ireland
A two-day sports and survival challenge to aid one of the largest voluntary housing agencies dedicated to combating homelessness drew five salesforce.com employees from the Ireland salesforce.com office to participate in the event
