2009 Turn It Up Grant Recipients

These grants are for visionary nonprofit organizations who are customizing their use of salesforce.com technology to support their ability to implement their social change mission.

United States

Bay Area Video Coalition, San Francisco, California

BAVC's program areas encompass a wide array of services and demographics: customized and open classes and workshops; youth programs with significant case management and evaluation components; and a large media arts and post-production department offering a wide range of customer services. They intend to integrate and automate the payment process and align BAVC's accounting systems with Salesforce.com via the Joomla Web site platform. They will also incorporate Salesforce's lead generation and forecasting functions into their development department's practices, leading to a more efficient and targeted technique for identifying and assessing potential grant prospects.

Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties, San Francisco, California

Goodwill provides education and career services to people who have disadvantages that would otherwise make it hard for them to find jobs. The project proposed is the first phase of a major initiative to build a state-of-the-art Salesforce solution that could be used by Goodwills across the country.

Grassroot Soccer, Norwich, Vermont

Using the power of soccer in the fight against AIDS, Grassroot Soccer provides African youth with the knowledge, skills and support to live HIV free. The project's goal is to quantify the impact of Grassroot Soccer's programs and their relationship to adolescent's sexual risk behavior, and HIV/AIDS prevention and education through a Salesforce based monitoring and evaluation tool, initially in South Africa and Zambia.

HelpSudan, Chicago, Illinois

The mission of HELPSudan is to start new schools in Southern Sudan, providing pencils and notebooks for hands that might have taken up arms, and an education for minds that once only understood war. Using Force.com Sites, HELPSudan proposes to engage supporters to manage their own fundraising efforts and events. They would implement this process in Salesforce, harnessing the power of dashboards and reports toward fundraising, benchmarking and volunteer management goals.

MicroMentor, San Francisco, California

MicroMentor connects entrepreneurs with experienced peers and volunteer business mentors. This program integrates the MicroMentor 2.0 platform with support, monitoring, and evaluation services to help local nonprofit microenterprise and small business development programs efficiently provide mentoring and advising services to their clients, and work more effectively with volunteers.

Polaris Project, Washington, DC

Named after the North Star that guided slaves towards freedom along the Underground Railroad, Polaris Project has been providing a comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002. Their project includes a national hotline to process calls about human trafficking, which they wish to integrate with Salesforce to track call center data.

Rainforest2Reef, Tahoe City, California

Rainforest2Reef is dedicated to the conservation of the biological corridor stretching from the rainforest of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve to the Mesoamerican Reef. Rainforest2Reef plans to partner with Facebook Causes to create an application that enables lead capture and triggers relationship management workflow in Salesforce.

Action Against Child Exploitation (ACE), Tokyo, Japan

ACE is a nonprofit organization that addresses the issue of child labor around the world. They will be building out their membership and development efforts through Salesforce with this grant.

The Carmichael Centre, Dublin City, Ireland

The principal objective of the Carmichael Centre is to nurture and support the development of small voluntary groups throughout Ireland, providing an environment which stimulates this development. The Carmichael Centre wishes to integrate Salesforce with their Web site, which caters to 450 nonprofit organizations to support and facilitate volunteer engagement.

Florence, Tokyo, Japan

Florence helps fill the need of working parents to assist them when young children fall ill and have no one at home to take care of them. They are one of the most forward-thinking social enterprises in Japan. A successful project would ensure that Florence would establish work flows on Salesforce so that members can easily register online and receive quick response from Florence.

Future Leaders, London, England

Future Leaders has developed a performance management framework which it wishes to integrate with Salesforce to increase efficiency, maximize the use of data, analyze data trends, and examine correlations between teacher recruitment and performance. Their goal is to inform the teacher recruitment process and see positive changes in teacher retention and student success.

Screenreader.net, London, England

Screenreader.net is dedicated to making computer programs accessible to the blind. This project proposes to meld the integration of Salesforce with the unique needs of blind users through a customized implementation and a set of training resources.

U-Turn Homeless Ministry, Cape Town, South Africa

U-Turn works specifically to address the rehabilitation and reintegration needs of the homeless. U-Turn is in the process of launching a city-wide Salesforce database project for all charities in Cape Town to track interactions with their clients. This project intends to provide training to the charitable organizations throughout Cape Town that wish to use the database as well as the homeless clients, in an effort to increase their marketability and employability.

Wildlife Victoria, Melbourne, Australia

Wildlife Victoria is volunteer based organization at the forefront of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Victoria, Australia. This project will enable Wildlife Victoria to establish a Salesforce system to help them with future disasters, like the recent wild fires, as well as on-going day-to-day wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

World Toilet Organization, Singapore, Singapore

Leverage Salesforce CRM to map global sanitation projects and investments; increase member enrollment, retention and visibility of member projects; mobilize resources and build awareness of the importance of sanitation; grow income through membership fees and strengthen World Toilet Organization's position as the global leader and champion of the sanitation cause.
