2010 Technology Innovation Grantees

These grants are for visionary nonprofit organizations who are customizing their use of salesforce.com technology to support their ability to implement their social change mission.

United States

Architecture for Humanity, Norwich, VT
Architecture for Humanity is a nonprofit design services firm that brings design, construction and development services to communities in need through a large online network of building professionals. With the "Turn It Up" grant, Architecture for Humanity will be working with Salesforce.com partner Linvio to create a Paypal payment integration solution that will allow them to more efficiently manage online donations and fundraising across their organization.

Grameen Foundation USA, Washington, DC
Grameen Foundation works to enable the poor to create a world without poverty. As an organization with field workers in remote and developing countries around the world, Grameen will use support from the Salesforce Foundation to continue to integrate mobile phone applications with Grameen's Salesforce database to enable streamlined management of field projects and high quality measurement and evaluation capabilities.

Grassroots Soccer, Norwich, VT
Grassroots Soccer uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire and mobilize communities to stop the spread of HIV. Poor monitoring of HIV testing/treatment programs in Africa results in unnecessary suffering among patients. With this grant, Grassroots soccer will build an online monitoring and evaluation system will enable health workers in Zambia to improve outcomes by capturing, analyzing, using, and disseminating data in real-time.

Groundwire, Seattle, Washington
Groundwire delivers technology to engage people, organizations and communities in building a sustainable society. With the "Turn It Up" grant, Groundwire will continue to grow Groundwire Labs, a set of tools for civic engagement. This project includes integrating core technology platforms including Plone (web publishing), Salesforce, email broadcasting, social media, and other new tools as identified.

Infinite Family, New York, New York
Infinite Family inspires and motivates teens and pre-teens in South Africa through online video-based mentoring relationships with adults in several countries.  With help from the Salesforce Foundation, Infinite Family will build a custom application to share quantitative life and skill impact evaluation for participants worldwide. The application will integrate key-stroke tracking, page views and regular surveys into Infinite Family's EZ Net and Salesforce platforms and will provide ongoing consistent, quantitative reporting.

Invisible Children, San Diego, California
Invisible Children is a social, political and global movement using the transformative power of story to change lives. With the "Turn It Up" grant, Invisible Children will build a custom application for their Conservation Cotton Initiative in Uganda(CCIU). The application would allow the collection of vital program information including farmer demographic data, acreages, and crop yields, as well as the activities of each farming society, from harvest sales to additional micro-economic activities such as the renting of ox plows and mini gins owned by each society. The rich data sets populated by this team would then be translated into dashboards and reports, and shared with the public via a Google Map.

New Leaders for New Schools, New York, New York

New Leaders for New Schools ensures high academic achievement for every student by attracting and preparing outstanding leaders and supporting the performance of the urban public schools they lead at scale. Moving our assessment data from multiple, unusable spreadsheets to the cloud will enable us to track, analyze, and report on the progress of our 640 trained New Leaders, the schools they lead, and the coaches who support their development.

Playworks, Oakland, California
Playworks works to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play. Playworks will be using this grant to create a simplified and streamlined portal for all student data collection and reporting. By pushing all data manipulation and reporting into their Salesforce.com database, they hope to lessen the workload for their in-school staff, eliminate their reliance on outside vendors for customized reporting, and ultimately allow for their program staff to develop and maintain the highest quality programming possible.

TransFair USA, Oakland, California
TransFair USA enables sustainable development and community empowerment by certifying and promoting Fair Trade products that cultivate a more equitable global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry, and the earth. With support from the Salesforce Foundation, TransFair USA will upgrade and open their Licensee Partner Portal to allow for improved data flow and management with their 800 Fair Trade licensees.

Europe, Africa &Asia

Florenece, Japan
Florenece works to provide support for parents with sick children in order to help them manage having a career and raising children at the same time. With Salesforce Foundation support, Florenece will work to create a streamlined and scalable system for matching members with sick children to nursing and day care options.

International Services Ireland, Dublin, Ireland
International Services Ireland(ISI) works to combat poverty and oppression by strengthening the organizations of the poorest groups in our countries of operation and by increasing awareness and understanding of development issues in the global north. ISI has developed an Impact Assessment Framework and an Organisational Assessment tool. With the "Turn It Up" grant, ISI aims to integrate those tools into a Knowledge Management System (KMS) which would strengthen the organization's ability to analyze knowledge.

Joy Melbourne Inc, Melbourne, Australia
JOY Melbourne is a gay and lesbian volunteer-based community radio station committed to providing a voice for the diverse lesbian and gay communities, enabling freedom of expression, the breaking down of isolation and the celebration of gay and lesbian cultural achievements and pride. JOY will use the "Turn It Up" grant to integrate it's membership, fundraising, volunteer, development, and accounting functions into Salesforce.

NP Tech, Lod, Israel
NP Tech promotes the usage of Information and Communications Technology in nonprofit organizations in a manner that helps them better reach their mission, make data driven decisions, and promote transparency and accountability. NP Tech will use this grant to encourage Israeli nonprofits to adopt salesforce as a managerial platform, develop knowledge training materials in Hebrew, and assist nonprofits in analyzing their unique needs and adapting the platform to their needs through the creation of a “do-it-yourself” web-tool for self analysis, as well as case-studies about successful implementations.

Polaris Project Japan, Japan
Polaris Project works to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Through this grant, Polaris Project will create a custom application to manage more than 400 human trafficking cases via phone, email and the internet including streamlining the documentation and data management process.

U-Turn Homeless Ministry, Cape Town, South Africa
U-Turn Homeless Ministry aims to restore the self-worth and self-esteem of the adult homeless person by addressing their spiritual, physical and emotional needs. With support from the Salesforce Foundation, U-Turn Homeless Ministry plans to deliver their state of the art Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system as a managed application on the Salesforce App exchange that will allow charities across the non-profit spectrum to capture and share their service delivery data in a robust and secure electronic platform.
