Sue McGilpin, Operations Manager, San Francisco

Sue McGilpin
Sue is a native Californian and now happy to call the Bay Area home, where “every weekend feels like a vacation.” Sue attended UCSB and worked in a variety of industries, from aerospace to travel to manufacturing. After 25 years in Santa Barbara, she followed her heart (and her partner) and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1998 where she worked for New Mexico AIDS Services. Sue’s inspiration for working with the HIV/AIDS affected community was borne from the courage, suffering and loss of many friends from that illness. Her dedication to the cause filtered into other areas and she became an avid volunteer (and, really, there was nothing else TO do in Albuquerque), giving many hours to other issues, such as Health Care for the Homeless, the NAMES Project and Habitat for Humanity. Last year when Sue and her partner returned to California, she knew she wanted to continue working for an organization that serves its community and found a nice fit right here at Salesforce Foundation in July of 2005. Sue’s role at the Foundation includes working closely with the Director of Finance and overseeing internal operations.

Before joining the Foundation, Joyce worked with the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, Singapore focusing on promoting and developing the giving spirit amongst Singaporeans. She was then part of the community partnerships team, facilitating giving opportunities with corporates and youths in areas of volunteerism and philanthropy. She professes to be a serial ad-hoc volunteer and loves to take part in all sorts of different types of volunteer work from helping animals, advocating for the mentally-ill, befriending the elderly, promoting the arts and getting dirty for environmental causes. Joyce graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Southeast Asian Studies and English Literature. Enjoying the roller-coaster ride of working in the non-profit sector, she sees life with a wacky sense of humor and believes in the power of one.
